Go M.A.D. 3 was the third installment of our popular children's workshop afternoon and evening. It was organized by our Circuit Youth Team and hosted for the first time by Broadstone Methodist Church in their fabulous new premises.
This time the M.A.D. stood for 'Music And Drama' and along with our usual choice of drama and dance workshops we also tried a couple of activities that we'd not offered before - hand bell ringing and junk funk (which involves making music with all kinds of weird stuff including copper pipes and watering cans!)
The running order was much the same as previous years:
|
3-4 pm |
Go Make Stuff |
Try your hand at a whole load of cool craft ideas & fun activities. |
|
4-4:10 pm |
Go Get A Drink |
Slurp some squash and bite a biscuit! |
|
4:10-4:30 pm |
Go Mental |
Get on down to some Fresh ‘n Funky Praise Songs! |
|
4:30-5:30 pm |
Go Do Stuff |
Choose from junk funk, hand bells, dance or drama |
|
5:30-6 pm |
Go Eat |
Tuck in to our shared tea (please bring some small party food to share e.g. crisps, sausage rolls etc.) |
|
6:30-7:30 pm |
Go Worship |
Go mad for Jesus in our extra special service for all ages. We’ll be showing the stuff we’ve made and doing our music, dance and drama. Mums, dads, in fact all the family are welcome to come along at 6:30 pm and check it out. |
|
7:30 pm |
Go Home!!! |
And have a rest! |
This year we had 36 children that came along from Broadstone, Ashley Road and Upton Methodist Churches. They all got really stuck in to the activities which included:
Making pop-pom pals
Making masks
Making two giant collages - one which featured people in the media who the children thought were talented (in one way or another); on the other one everyone drew around their hand and wrote what they thought their own gifts and talents were.
Balloon modeling (thanks to Fraser!)
The workshops were really successful and everyone was amazed at what they were each able to produce given only an hour. Some children were having a go at things which they'd never tried before and there was a great deal of enthusiasm all round.
In the worship that evening all the workshops contributed and many children were out at the front of the Church with me leading the singing and actions. It was really encouraging to see so many parents come along for the service and join in too!
All in all it seems to have been another worthwhile event and one which, all being well, I'm sure we'll repeat next year.
