Children's Workshop
Ashley Road Methodist Church
Sunday November 18th 2001
We had a brilliant afternoon and evening with 36 children in attendance from across the Circuit. We began with some parachute games (see pictures below) and then after a short introduction from yours truly the children had an hour in which they could choose from a range of different craft activities to try their hand at.
These included making:
Clown puppets
Advent rings (two different designs)
A big, big picture which illustrated our theme
Christmas cards (woven or embossed)
After a short refreshment break I then led us all in some (very!) lively action songs - most of which we learnt and then used in the worship later on.
Then the children went into more groups that they had opted for to have a go at some:
Dance
Drama
Music
We then came together again for our sandwich tea and another game or two. After this we went straight into the Church for our evening worship - 'Celebrate Together'. Quite a few parents and other friends from around the Circuit came and supported us and the Church was well-filled.
We had a great time of worship together which involved using all we had made and prepared during the afternoon. I led the evening but with LOTS of participation from the children themselves.
All in all the whole event seemed to go very well and there was certainly a lot of very positive feedback from leaders, parents and most importantly from the children themselves. The question I was asked was, "When are you going to do it again?"
I would like to thank all the members of my newly founded Circuit Youth Team for a BRILLIANT first event. Many people put a lot of time and energy in preparing for the day and the results speak for themselves - it was well worth it. Thanks also to the folk at Ashley Road Methodist for being so accommodating - particularly to John Redwood who also supplied me with some wonderful pictures.
