Well, it's finally here - after what seems like an eternity. As many of you will doubtless be aware, for the last 6 years or so I've been writing and recording my own songs. These are aimed squarely at children and young people but work well in an all-age setting too. Most of them were written for use primarily in the many school assemblies that I lead every week. Increasingly people have been asking me how they can get copies of these songs. The short answer was that they couldn't - until now. I decided that it was about time I took the bull by the horns and actually produced a proper audio CD with some of my most popular material on.
The result is 'My Best Mate' - a collection of 8 of my own songs, with full lyrics and the corresponding 8 backing tracks too. This means that schools, churches, Brownie Packs, youth clubs etc. can sing these songs for themselves using the exact same accompaniment as I use myself.
Musically most of the songs are guitar-driven, rock-based tunes with a couple of more dance type numbers. They have been tried and tested in schools, churches and children's clubs and when I lead them they all have lots of accompanying actions! They are all pretty short, very easy to pick up with contemporary language and catchy tunes (even if I do say so myself!).
Congratulations to Holly (aged 10) from SPLAT on winning the competition to design the front cover of the CD. Her fantastic design was actually a collage and was so simple, bright and cheerful that it was perfect for the job - just what I was looking for. So thank you Holly very much!
++ Hope FM Radio Interview ++
I got my first taste of what it's like to do a radio interview just recently when I was invited to come in to the Hope FM Studio and talk about the CD and my ministry in schools. Hope FM is our local Christian radio station which broadcasts from Bournemouth on 90.1 MHz. You can also listen online at their website.
Stuart Sharkey interviewed me for 30 minutes during which time he also played My Best Mate, The Lacky Band Song, Go MAD and Thank U God 4. It was a strange feeling hearing my songs on the radio!
I took the liberty of recording the show and you can download a slightly edited version (with the music faded in and out) which runs for 23 minutes. It's an WMA file which you should be able to play easily in Windows Media Player. Simply right-click the link below and choose 'Save Target As ...'
