    • ROCKY'S PLAICE! Wow! What can I say? We've just finished an amazing week of doing Rocky's Plaice at Upton Methodist Church. We've still got the service and BBQ tomorrow (yes - that's Saturday evening) and then we're done. The children have been brilliant and I've had a simply superb team of leaders and helpers who have been working with me all week. I'm ready for a rest now! We are also planning a 'Return to Rocky's Plaice' get-together on Thursday 30th September. A date for your diary! You can read about the club here and children who went to the club (and their families) can access a special members-only section with loads of photos and other goodies to download.

    • UPDATES GALORE! Phew! I've just finished doing an update marathon. The BIG BUG Club, Activ8, SPLAT, SPACE and Brownies pages have all been updated with next term's details etc. You can download a flyer with the dates on for Activ8, SPLAT and SPACE. I've also added new pictures to the BIG BUG Club Photo Gallery, Activ8 Members Section, SPLAT Photo Gallery and Brownies Photo Gallery. You'll need your regular login details.
    • ROCKY'S PLAICE! We're counting down the days now ...!!!

  • 7th July 2010

    • ROCKY'S PLAICE! Wow! This year's holiday club broke all previous records and we were sold out with 96 children and a full waiting list within just a few hours of bookings opening. Preparations are well underway:
      • We'll be piloting a new checking in and out system each day which will involve each member of the club having their own membership card complete with barcode on the back. Now all you'll have to do is bleep in and out every morning which should speed the whole process up quite a bit.
      • We've tasked the tremendous Upton Art Group with creating the backdrop for Rocky's Plaice. I'm really excited with what they are working on. It's going to be the best ever!
      • I'm currently working on some new idea for The Messy Bit and trying some stuff we've never done before!

    • HOT POTATOES! You can check out details of my new Autumn discussion group at Upton Methodist Church by clicking on Hot Potatoes! It's going to be a chance to wrestle with some controversial issues and bring the resources of the Bible and faith to bear upon them. It's based on a book (and audio book) written a few years ago now by one of my great influences, Dr. Tony Campolo, called 20 Hot Potatoes That Christians Are Afraid To Touch. But we're doing 6!!!

  • 8th June 2010

    • ROCKY'S PLAICE! Exciting news! I'm going into the two Upton schools this week promoting our forthcoming annual children's holiday club at Upton Methodist Church. This year it's called Rocky's Plaice and is set in a fish and chip shop! The Bible stories are all from the first few chapters of the Book of Acts and follow the adventures of Peter (in Greek 'Cephas' = rock) and the very early Christian Church. We haven't tackled much of this material before so it will be good to try something new. We'll have all the usual fun and games and, of course, Rona's biscuits!!!

  • 6th June 2010

    • GO MAD CANCELLED! I'm really sorry to report that we've had to cancel our forthcoming Circuit family fun day at Sandbanks this year. For a variety of reasons we just weren't able to get enough people to register and most of those who did register weren't actually coming as families (which was kind of the whole point of it!). We didn't want to go ahead with something that looked a bit naff. Perhaps we'll try again another day or maybe Go MAD will transform again into something new (as it has before)? Wait and see!

  • 4th May 2010

    • UPDATES! I've just updated the Go MAD @ the Beach 3 page and Suzannah has updated the BIG BUG Club page.
    • TOPICAL JOKE! Sorry but I just couldn't resist this today ... may the fourth be with you!!!

  • 30th March 2010

    • UPDATES! I've just updated the Activ8, SPLAT and SPACE pages with details of next term's meetings. You can also download your very own flyer/poster just so you don't forget!
    • RECRUITMENT! We are delighted that both the BIG BUG Club and Activ8 are doing really well at the moment and we've had quite a few people join just lately. Activ8 now accepts young people aged 11 and over so if you're in Year 6 then you could already be or soon will be old enough to come. Contact me for more details.
    • HAPPY EASTER! Suzannah and myself wish you a very Happy Easter. Christ is risen - Alleluia!

  • 16th March 2010

    • PIRATE PARTY! Suzannah and the BIG BUG Club team ran an excellent Pirate Party last week to which 34 children came along. The aim was to promote the regular work of the BIG BUG Club and maybe attract a few new members. It seems to have been a great success. Find out more on the BIG BUG Club page.

  • 14th January 2010

    • SITE CHANGES! I've finally created a password-protected photo gallery for the BIG BUG Club. Now members of the BBC will be able to check out all the latest photos on a secure subsite via the normal BIG BUG Club page. You'll need the logon details from Suzannah. Enjoy!

  • 7th January 2010

    • HAPPY NEW YEAR! Every best wish for 2010 from Suzannah and myself.

    • GUESS WHAT ... FLASH AGAIN! Hope you like the simple Mr. Men New Year greeting I put together on the home page.

    16th December 2009

    • MORE FLASH! I've put a nice little snowman animation on the home page. I wish I could claim credit but all I came up with was the text fading in and out! I'm learning slowly.

  • 14th December 2009

    • SITE TWEAKS! I've made a few minor alterations to the titles of many pages just to try and improve the usability factor a little.

    • UPDATES! I've updated the Where Am I On Sunday page again (up to the beginning of February 2010). Also I've updated the Activ8, SPLAT and SPACE pages with the details of next term's meetings. You can also download a PDF version of the new flyer for each of these groups. There are also some new photos from this term in the Activ8 members section.

    • HAPPY CHRISTMAS! If I don't get another chance to say this to you before the day is upon us ... do have a very Happy Christmas and peaceful New Year!

  • 23rd November 2009

    • LOOKING FLASH! I've started playing around with Flash animations. You can see my first effort on the home page. It's pretty basic stuff - just the animated text of John 1: 1-5. If you can't see it then you'll need to (1) make sure you have the free Flash plugin (your browser should prompt you to download it) and (2) allow your browser the permission to run ActivX objects. I've got some ideas about using more flash animations. Watch this space.

    • UPDATES! I've updated the Where Am I On Sunday page with all my preaching appointments until mid January including all the Christmas specials (not just on Sundays).
  •

  • 24th October 2009

    • MENU FIX! I've finally got around to fixing the menu bar at the bottom of each page. Thanks for bearing with me.
  •

  • 5th October 2009

    • UPDATES! Suzannah has updated the Brownies section complete with more photos in the members-only part of the site.
  •

  • 24th September 2009

    • UPDATES! Suzannah has update the BIG BUG Club section (plus the new Autumn programme) and I've created a special members-only photo gallery for SPLAT. SPLAT members can get to it through the usual SPLAT page but they'll need the login details from me.
    • BARN DANCE! Some great photos of our Harvest Barn Dance last Friday night will soon be appearing on the main Church website - www.uptonmethodistchurch.net  - have a look in a few days time!

  • 17th September 2009

    • SITE RESTRUCTURING! After over 8 years of maintaining this site using Microsoft Frontpage (and a dedicated part of my ISP's server with Frontpage extensions) PlusNet have now announced that they are dropping Frontpage extensions altogether! This was not entirely unexpected but coming this week in particular (see below) was not what I needed to hear. So I've had to totally re-vamp and upload the site. I'm now using MS Expression Web. Basically, if you find that some bits aren't working properly then I apologise and please bear with me. Most stuff is now back online again though.

    • LIFE RESTRUCTURING! Well, not quite but it's felt a bit like that lately. The good news is that the Circuit have re-invited me to serve for a further two years from next September so God-willing I should be sticking around in Poole until at least August 2012. I managed to get a 75% majority vote (which was exactly what I needed to stay) but it was incredibly close and the whole experience was very nerve-racking I can tell you. Thank you so much to all the people who have offered love and support to us both. We've been bowled over by the thoughts, prayers, phone calls, emails, Facebook messages etc. that have flooded in over the last few days and helped us through what has been a worrying time. I'm convinced that God has more work for me here in sunny Dorset and relieved that I now have the opportunity to carry on doing it.

    • SHOWSTOPPERS! We've just finished an absolutely brilliant week at our annual children's holiday club. With over 83 enthusiastic children each morning we've certainly been kept on our toes. You can read a bit about it here. There is also a 'members only' section which is only for the children who attended and their families.

    • UPDATES! Suzannah has updated the BIG BUG Club page including the new summer programme and photos and also the Brownies page plus new photos in the photo gallery.

  • 16th July 2009

    • Updates! I've updated the Activ8, SPLAT and SPACE sections with the dates for next term's meetings. Each one includes a downloadable flyer in PDF format. I've also finally got around to updating the links page with some of my favourite places on the web to hang out!

    • Back Problems! Unfortunately, during a particularly enthusiastic rendition of The Lacky Band Song in assembly yesterday I managed to pull a muscle across my shoulder blades. Not the best preparation for a holiday club week it has to be said. It's feeling a little easier today and I'm hoping it won't slow me down too much!

  • 15th July 2009

    • The Bible Unplugged! This Autumn I'm trying a different approach to Bible study with a much simpler kind of course. I'll be leaving the projector behind this time and letting the Good Book speak for itself. You can read about what the course will look like on the Bible Unplugged page. Details of sessions will be added later.

    • Preaching Calendar! I've updated the Where Am I On Sunday page with my preaching appointments until the end of September 2009.

    • SHOWSTOPPERS! Nearly there now! The fun kicks off next Monday morning.

  • 12th July 2009

    • SHOWSTOPPERS! We're getting geared up for our summer holiday club in a week's time. Bookings were amazingly rapid and this year's club was fully booked with a waiting list in less than two days. That's the fastest response yet. You can read a little about it here.

    • Go MAD Again @ The Beach! About 65 people turned up to Go MAD Again @ The Beach last month. The sun shone and we had a marvellous day of fun and games. There is a special photo gallery in a protected section of the site just for the people who came along. Check out the main Go MAD page.

  • 10th June 2009

    • SHOWSTOPPERS! Check out the details of this year's children's holiday club at Upton Methodist Church. Booking has opened today for children at Upton Infant & Junior Schools. This time the theme is the theatre and performing arts etc. It promises to be very exciting as they always are. Spaces are limited so don't delay!

    • Go MAD Again @ The Beach! We are really hoping that the weather will be kind to us this weekend as we run our second Go MAD event at Sandbanks beach. Last year's event was hugely enjoyable and we've got plenty of people who are keen to come along on Saturday. Now all we need is a bit of sunshine ...

    • More Updates! I've just uploaded the details of this term's Activ8, SPLAT and SPACE meetings. Apologies for the delay. You can also download a programme for each if you wish.

    • New Website! I'm delighted to announce that Upton Methodist Church now has it's own website which is now live. At the moment it's fairly basic but we hope that it will become a useful tool in the ministry of the Church. A million thanks to Matthew for designing and maintaining it! You can check it out at www.uptonmethodistchurch.net

    • God Blogger! I've also begun to dip my toes in the wonderful water of blogging. I've started a blog to chuck around a few ideas about what it means to be a follower of Jesus in our 21st Century world. Do have a look and feel free to add your own comments. You can find my blog at http://nickthevic.blogspot.com/

    • Worship Band! Our little fledgling worship band played for the very first time during All-Age Worship at Upton Methodist this morning. It went pretty well considering we'd only had one practise before today. Plenty of positive feedback so we hope to build on that. Incidentally the group consists of Sue (piano), Suzannah (flute), George (drums) and yours truly on bass.

    • Sermon Download! Folk who attended the evening service that I led at Poole Methodists (at Oakdale) this evening can now download (for 2 weeks) the full text of my sermon - The Greatest Commandment about what it actually means to love God with all your heart, soul and strength. All you have to do is right click the link below and select 'Save Target As ...':
